From long-distance dating to a luxe destination wedding in Athens, Greece, Nina and Peter’s love story is one for the books. Our hearts are all a flutter with these gorgeous photos by Anna Roussos which beautifully capture this stunning al fresco wedding planned by The Twelve Events. This classic green and white color palette goes hand in hand with the crystal geometric chandeliers, elegant draping and larger-than-life dessert table that immediately had us drooling. From the photographer, Anna Roussos: If you’re planning a classic wedding, let this white-and-green formal wedding on Island Athens Residence be your guide. Nina & Peter’s families flew in from the U.S. and the couple’s nuptials took place in a seaside orthodox church as Nina is of Greek origin. With a modern classic vibe in mind, they focused on everything elegant while pulling in the greens from indigenous varieties. The12events layered on that equally invigorating modern touch, making for one incredibly stunning garden celebration in white cabanas and fabric draping to bring a little bit of the inside to the manicured alfresco. Snapdragons, lilies, stephanotis, lisianthus, peonies, and luxuriant hydrangeas were some of the couple’s choices in wedding florals which paired to greenery and ferns recreated the most enchanting mossy, earthy scents just perfect for a summer destination wedding in Greece.
From the bride, Nina: Peter and I have never had a conventional relationship. When we met 5 years ago, he was preparing to leave for medical school in an entirely different state. Neither one of us imagined that we’d be able to withstand the challenges often associated with long distance relationships – but with love, hard work and many hours spent on planes, here we are today!
When we got engaged, Peter and I knew that we wanted our wedding to be a unique experience, not just for us, but for our family and loved ones. Both of my parents grew up and lived for most of their young lives in Greece – over the years, we would travel back and forth as a family. Never in our wildest dreams did Peter and I think that we’d be getting married in Athens, but the more my parents suggested it, the more we fell in love with the idea.
After hours of research online, I came across 12Events and fell in love with their work. After an initial (early morning Skype) conversation with the team, Peter and I were confident that we needed 12Events to help plan and design our wedding. In June of 2018, my mother and I traveled to Greece for 5 days to meet with 12Events. In just 5 days, the team helped us accomplish so much of the major initiatives that go into a planning a wedding: selecting the venue, the church, hotel accommodations for guests, meeting with various vendors and even the food tasting!
In terms of design, we wanted to highlight the natural beauty of the Athenian Riviera and decided on keeping our colors soft and neutral. Lots of whites and blush tones, with pops of greenery. The color scheme of our bridal party complemented the wedding décor – this was intentional, again because we didn’t want to take away from the magic that is Athens.
Peter and I’s wedding day was a fairytale. It exceeded all of our expectations, in every way. Months later, our friends and family continue to talk about the memories they created in Greece, most importantly, the breathtaking beauty of our wedding.
Destination weddings are obviously our love language and we cannot stop gushing over this luxe wedding in Athens. Can you blame us?
